For centuries now people have been looking for proof of God. Unfortunately, they always come up empty. The sad part about the searching for centuries is that why do we think that we can do such a thing as prove God? Who do we think we are?
Also, what would we think if we did prove Him in the way we are trying to? Wouldn’t that make Him less of a God?
We have exhausted all the different types of proof, or at least what we deem is proof. Space, black holes, dark energy, atoms, string theory, etc. None of those things have anything that will prove God. Those are all evidence of Him. As is nature and us.
Proving God is possible. I’m referring to concrete proof. Not with circumstantial evidence. So how do we do that you ask?
WE DON’T. GOD PROVES HIMSELF TO US.
IF YOU SEEK ME WITH ALL OF YOUR HEART,
Jeremiah 29:13
YOU WILL FIND ME
Finding is the ultimate proof in any court. It’s tangible. It’s not circumstantial. It’s like having a video of something where there is no room to deny. When Christ spoke those words, He absolutely meant them. Just like He meant all the words He spoke. Our problem is that we take those words in jest. We use that phrase in certain aspects of our life to give us a good feeling about something, but we never take those words to heart as if they are absolutely without a doubt The Truth.
The proof we have been searching for centuries would not even make us feel better even if we were successful. Think about it, if it were possible to find undeniable proof of God in the way we have been searching would we be astounded or somewhat disappointed? What would happen next? Suppose proof of Him was discovered in a certain scientific experiment. What would we do afterwards? Knowing mankind, we would probably congratulate ourselves. As if we succeeded in overcoming God and finding Proof of Him.
However, Christ had something better in mind, not only proof, but also what would come with that proof. A feeling like no other, a feeling that would supersede all expectations. A complete overturn of your existence and how you lived. Certainly, for the better.
Let’s break down the passage piece by piece.
IF YOU
First off, Christ is telling us that we have a choice by using the word IF. Letting us know that proof isn’t going to be forced upon us. Anything forced is not love.
He is also stating that this isn’t going to be a group or team effort, it’s going to be just YOU. Sometimes we travel easy or rough roads in our life with people we know such as spouse, family, and friends. However, there are some roads that you need to travel alone. This is without a doubt one of those roads, there is only room for two. You and Him.
SEEK ME
These two words we don’t take to heart. We assume it simply means to search in the physical sense with our eyes. However, God can’t be found in the physical sense, so it is pretty much pointless to seek only with our eyes. Seek Me is referring to focusing on God and looking for Him in all aspects and form, not just physical. Such as good times, bad times, boring times, nature, love, science, creation, animals, plants, suffering. I guess what I am trying to say is EVERYTHING. To learn to look at things from a different perspective and not rush to judgement.
WITH ALL OF YOUR HEART
Notice it doesn’t state what scientific tools or special computer software is needed. All we need is a heart. Which means we all have the credentials to pursue this if we want.
But it does state ALL OF OUR HEART. Which means to orient ourselves to pursue Him and not to do so for other goals or to get things for our benefit. This part takes time and practice. This is telling us the reason to do this is simply for God and nothing from God and nothing to promote yourself to others. God must be the reason and the only reason. With absolutely zero expectations from you.
YOU WILL FIND ME
So, who will find Him? it doesn’t state which church, scientific organization, certain group of people, doesn’t state a specific nationality or religion. It simply means YOU and nobody else.
The beauty in YOU finding proof in God outside of knowing God and having a relationship is that you can’t prove it to anyone else. Everyone is accountable for themselves. Even if you could prove it to others, they would lose out on the experience that you encountered, the patience you encountered, the learning you encountered and the understanding of goodness and love you encountered.
One of the baffling but understood things about finding God is that I can’t put it into words. He is that incredible. I could certainly try but it would fall short of what the experience is like. I can only hope that my experience may ignite something in you to seek with all your heart. Just know that each of our encounters may have different paths and circumstances but the result is always the same.
So how does one know that they have found Him? Trust me, you will know. Because you will have found undeniable proof. Don’t take my word for it, Take His.
CONCLUSION
I like to compare this along the lines of the game we played as a child and as an adult. Hide & Go Seek. The adult hides in a place not too easy to find but yet not too difficult either. Another words, the child should be able to find them if they seek hard enough. The best part about the game for both child and adult is of course when the child seeks and finds. It’s a rush for both parties.
Since the beginning, He is the only thing that matters. For us, a relationship with Him and getting to know Him is the only thing that matters. It is our purpose. The core of our existence. We live in a world today that we want everything now or want to know everything now. With the world wide web and technology most of that can be accomplished. However, it’s meaningless in the end. Getting to know Jesus Christ is a process, a process that is meant to be meaningful and exciting. Why would we want that short and quick? Besides, anything worth anything takes time……His time is eternity. That should say enough about how great the relationship can be. The relationship is constantly growing, never gets old, never gets in a funk and never boring. It actually opens up a whole new You that will blow your mind.
We are accustomed to what we think we need and what is fun, exciting, and what satisfies us or even completes us. We tend to think of religion or God as non-exciting for we THINK He wants us to be in bondage with rules and regulations. What we don’t realize is that we have it completely backwards. Of course, you won’t find this out until you find Him.
